Queen of Bohemia - The Legacy of Aimée Crocker

‘Queen of Bohemia - The Legacy of Aimee Crocker’ is the new release from Factual Creative and Director Noel Greaves-Lord looking at the remarkable life of Aimee Crocker, one of America’s most notorious and little known 19th century socialites. A woman who travelled the globe, had five husbands, drank with Oscar Wilde and danced with the Follies Bergere.

The film examines how Aimee’s zest for life and her desire to get a tattoo has carried forward to inspire many strong and independent women of today to explore body art.

The stories of Aimee’s tattoos made headlines across America and her notoriety carried around the world. It may have taken over 100 years for western society to start accepting heavily tattooed women, but it was certainly Aimee who started the conversation.

The film interviews several women to understand their motivations and inspiration to get inked. There are common themes running through the film around empowerment, feminism and defying the patriarchy.

Although just a snapshot of Aimee’s life and adventures, the film recreates the night she spent with a seven foot Boa Constrictor, and we hear in her own words how her snake tattoo was created by her current lover Hori Chiyo, a Japanese artist already renowned for inking Kings and Tsars.

The film includes exclusively female voices from the UK and is interwoven with extracts from Aimees autobiography “And I’d do it Again” performed by American actress Mary Lynn Blanks who, brings a beautifully nostalgic and emotional dimension to the film.
